Subject Description

Information Systems focuses on the design and use of information technology in relation to people, organizations, and societies.

Job Responsibilities

The responsibilities involve research and teaching within information security and information classification. The research in this position is linked to total defense in the northern domain and building resilient societies under hybrid threats. Our research in this area is directed towards critical (information) infrastructure for societal vital functions – from the seabed to space systems – and their relationship to the strategic prerequisites for governance, vulnerability, and resilience in the northern domain.

Based on the unique geographical, infrastructural, economic, and demographic conditions in the far northern part of the world, the work is expected to contribute to knowledge development on how critical infrastructure and governance systems can be designed and coordinated to withstand hybrid threats and armed conflicts, thereby enabling a future-oriented total defense in a geographically exposed region. In addition to research, the role includes participation in a research academy for young researchers, in national and international networks for total defense in the north, and in a collaboration platform for societal resilience that connects academics with public and private stakeholders.

The teaching within the scope of the position relates to our master's program in information security, and specifically to the subjects of information classification, risk analysis and management, and governance and management of information security in organizations.

As an Assistant Professor, you will, together with professors and others in the subject, be responsible for the development of the subject at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral education levels. You are expected to strengthen our research and education profile and contribute to establishing the area internally, both in the form of existing and future courses and as a research area on our campus in Luleå. Specifically important for this professorship is a close relationship and collaboration with actors in the region and the surrounding society.

The position entails that you will:

  • Be responsible for developing, teaching, and examining courses in information security
  • Supervise students and follow the international development of the subject
  • Work on research tasks (e.g., applying for external research funding, leading and collaborating in research projects, communicating and disseminating research results via academic publications and presentations of results to various stakeholder groups and other research communication)
  • Network and collaborate with actors in the region and in national and international contexts
  • Be active in the research community within your own subject

Qualifications

Eligible for appointment as an Assistant Professor is someone who has completed a doctoral degree or has a foreign doctoral degree considered equivalent to a doctoral degree.

Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical service, trust-based positions, or similar circumstances.
